Help us welcome back guest instructor Liza Jayne Lewis to the Fringe Society team! Liza works wonders with the natural dyestuff she forages and collects seasonally, adding depth of color and meaning to her works. This semester she is hosting two workshops:
Intro to Natural Dye
Liz Lewis received her BFA from College for Creative Studies in 2011. It was during her senior year there that she began exploring natural dyes in an independent fiber arts study. Her love of plants, dedication to sustainable materials, and enthusiasm for process has kept natural dyes at the forefront of her work as an artist and a teacher. In 2014 she took her craft on the road with a traveling workshop tour teaching dye techniques at various locations across the country such as Yarn & Coffee in Santa Fe, NM and Rosalie Apothecary in New Orleans, LA. Alongside her own art she also works in several Detroit Public Schools bringing agricultural and sustainable art projects to students ages 7 to 18. Liz has recently exhibited work at the Paint Creek Center for the Arts, Flow, and Alley Culture and has curated student shows at Always Brewing Detroit and The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. With her art Liz Lewis strives to inspire and educate others about the endless possibilities of the flora of our world.
